For the past three years, Region Ten Prevention Services has been partnering with Light House Studios to offer Charlottesville area middle and high schoolers free Public Service Announcement (PSA) making workshops focused on vaping prevention.
Since 2021, more than 100 middle and high schoolers in the Charlottesville area have participated in Clear the Air and dedicated their time to learning about the health risks associated with vaping and nicotine use, how to research and present factual information to their peers, as well as the filmmaking process. Throughout the life of this program, participants were able to create 20 incredible PSAs. Clear the Air was made possible by a grant from the Virginia Foundation for Healthy Youth. The success of the program was made possible by the passion and creativity of all the workshop participants, as well as a strong partnership with Light House Studios.
The 2024 spring and summer workshops produced another batch of creative and informative PSAs that used everything from music to comedy to drama to get out important messages around vaping prevention. As with previous years, following the close of the final summer workshop, participants and their families were invited to celebrate all their hard work and view the year’s PSAs on the big screen at the Vinegar Hill Theater.
The screening event ended with the announcement of the PSA competition winners, with 1st place going to “Distraction,” 2nd place going to “Addiction’s Grip,” and 3rd place going to “This Bathroom Ain’t Big Enough”.
Congratulations to all of this year’s Clear the Air PSAs! Please view below!
