Where are you from? Washington, DC, grew up in Arlington, Virginia.

What drew you to the mental health field? My first job was working in a group home in Arlington, Virginia. I enjoyed the interaction with consumers with intellectual and developmental disabilities and the community activities they participated in. I have worked as a Direct Support Professional, House Manager, and now as a Senior Direct Support Professional with Region Ten while working at one of Region Ten’s group homes in Charlottesville. Overall, I’ve been a DSP for 25 years!

What are some of the highlights over your professional career? I have been able to gain knowledge in my different roles while working with people who have developmental disability concerns. The joy has been seeing the people served by Region Ten live in the community and fulfill their goals in life.

What do you enjoy about your work at Region Ten? I enjoy working at Region Ten because the teamwork is fantastic and the interaction with the people we serve brings much joy and happiness. I love to see them doing well in their lives.

What does Developmental Disability Awareness Month mean to you? This month means that people with and without disabilities come together to form a strong community. That is an accomplishment within itself.
