Where are you from? Glen Allen, Virginia.

What drew you to the behavioral health field? I was drawn to the field after seeing my loved ones struggle to access resources for their own mental health. I saw gaps in the field, especially for queer folk, and wanted to help fill the role of what was missing in my own life, as well as my family’s lives.

What are some of the highlights over your professional career? One highlight has been the opportunity to lead the Queer Support Group at Region Ten. I am incredibly proud to work alongside other staff to create an accepting space for – and with – the queer folk in my community. Another highlight has been the opportunities I have received to become trained in modalities such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Play Therapy. Getting to see my own professional knowledge develop alongside my clients has been a truly unique experience.

What do you enjoy about your work at Region Ten? I have really enjoyed the collaborative, supportive environment. Being able to drop by and chat with other staff and get consultations when needed has really allowed me to grow in this role.

What does Pride Month mean to you? Pride Month was created to honor the contributions and sacrifices of our queer predecessors. This month allows space to recognize the sacrifices of those before us while also celebrating the queer joy that is an equally important part of our work. It is an honor every year to participate in the legacy created by these individuals while finding my own way to continue the advocacy and celebration of my community.
