Opioid Addiction, Suicide Risk, and Recovery with Dr. Stephen Loyd

This FREE virtual speaker session with Dr. Loyd is part of the annual SPARC of Hope Walk event series.

Dr. Stephen Loyd is a graduate of the Quillen College of Medicine at East Tennessee State University. He completed his medical residency in Internal Medicine at the same institution. He has served as the Chief of Medicine at the Mountain Home VA Medical Center in Johnson City, Tennessee. Recently, he was the Medical Director and Assistant Commissioner for Substance Abuse Services for the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services. For the last ten years he has focused on addiction medicine with an interest in the opioid dependent pregnant patient. He is currently the the Medical Director for Cedar Recovery Center of Middle Tennessee and an active member of the Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners. He has been in recovery from addiction to opioids and benzodiazepines since July 8, 2004.

Dr. Loyd will speak about the brain science behind addiction and recovery. Being in Recovery himself, he offers unique insights into the mental struggle someone endures in addiction, as well as the important role that prevention plays in ensuring mental health. There will also be time for questions and answers.
